The music is very heavily rooted in classical, and their orchestra paired with their rock instruments can really create some unique atmospheric music that you aren't likely to hear anywhere else. The songs on this album take you on steady, flowing builds-to-crescendo, without sacrificing their melodic appeal. Like most post rock bands, Sigur R ós' music is truly an experince to be had. Agaetis Byrjun (1999) Agaetis Byrjun is 72 minutes of sonically rich, emotionally pulverizing perfection, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Kid A, The Moon & Antarctica, and every other rock. I love the guitarist's clever use of a cello bow and clear, pure sounding falsetto voice.

Featuring a full backing orchestra, falsetto-based vocals, bowed guitar, and brilliant lyrics sung only in Icelandic and in some places, the band's own gibberish language, Vonlenska. This is a very unique and clever form of post rock, drawing influences mostly from shoegaze, classical, and ambient artists. They're on the same record label as Animal Collective, Björk, and Panda Bear, and very deservedly so. More simply beautiful music, this time from one of my favorite bands, Sigur R ós. I made a ship ready and said a little prayer because I was scaredīut today I am to save as many flies as possible. Which means that "Good Start" might as well become of the most charming understatements to come out of a band in years. Rarely has a sophomore effort sounded this thick and surprising. As expected, though, the band's keen sense of Sturm und Drang is mostly contained within an elegant scope of melodies for the remainder of this follow-up. Take "Hjartað Hamast (Bamm Bamm Bamm)," for instance: there are so many layers of heavy strings, dense atmospherics, and fading vocals that it becomes an ineffectual mess of styles over style. However, at its worst, the album sometimes slides into an almost overkill of sonic structures. At its best, the album seems to accomplish everything lagging post-shoegazers like Spiritualized or Chapterhouse once promised. One will constantly be waiting to hear what fascinating turns such complex musicianship will take at a moment's notice.
Extremely deep strings underpin falsetto wails from the mournfully epic ("Viðar Vel Tl Loftárasa") to the unreservedly cinematic ("Avalon"). The rest of this full-length follows such similar quality. After an introduction just this side of one of the aforementioned Stone Roses' backward beauties, the album pumps in the morning mist with "Sven-G-Englar" - a song of such accomplished gorgeousness that one wonders why such a tiny country as Iceland can musically outperform entire continents in just a few short minutes.
